PITTSBURGH (Dec. 1, 2014) – Charlie Batch, his wife Tasha, and dozens of volunteers from the Best of the Batch Foundation will be in downtown Pittsburgh tomorrow, Dec. 2, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., collecting toys for local families facing tough times this holiday season. This annual “Batch A Toys” event will take place in the U.S. Steel Building Plaza at 600 Grant Street.
“Every year, we adopt 100 families in the Pittsburgh area who need some help. With our volunteers, we collect the toys and wrap them, and then Tasha and I personally deliver the presents on Christmas Eve,” said Charlie Batch. “We’ve feel blessed to be able to help the community in this way. And thanks to the amazing generosity of the people of this region, we have been able to distribute more than 25,000 toys to children since we first launched this effort seven years ago.”
The toys go to families at the Women’s Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, at Children’s Hospital, to the Housing Authority City of Pittsburgh and to financially challenged families in Allegheny County. This year, Foundation hopes to collect more than 5,000 toys – enough to “stuff” a giant inflatable bounce-house-style present on Steel Plaza.
In addition to the Steel Plaza location, any new, unwrapped toy can also be dropped off at Dunkin Donuts, GAP, U-Haul and FastSigns. Our sponsors also include: MESA, UPMC Health Plan, Panera Bread, and Best Buy (Waterfront).
“Thanks to our business partners, volunteers and the community, we are able to deliver toys, smiles and joy to local children and families,” said Tasha Batch. “We thank everyone for their efforts. We couldn’t do it without them.”
Currently, the Best of the Batch Foundation works with more than 3,000 kids annually in five counties in the Pittsburgh area.
