Pittsburgh Steelers Annual Ladies’ Night Out

It’s no secret the Steelers’ have a great fan base, with a large portion of those who support the black and gold being female fans. And on Monday night, those ladies showed their loyalty and football knowledge at the annual Steelers Ladies’ Night Out event, presented by Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

Eastern Michigan University to Host Professional Development Event

Among the speakers will be Charlie Batch, a standout quarterback for Eastern in the mid-90s who went on to a 15-year NFL run with the Detroit Lions, who drafted him, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, with whom he spent most of his career. Read the full article here.

AIU’s Center for Creativity Hosts STEAM Showcase Open House

Hundreds of students and educators to attend

Former Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch will speak and present student awards

Area legislators have been invited to attend

440 expected attendance including 75 students from 25 school districts from throughout the region.


What:  STEAM Showcase Open House – 25 school districts to attend to show how they each have used $20,000 in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) grants to change their schools for the better.


When:  Thursday, September 11, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

11:00 am -12:00 noon School Districts will display STEAN Grant Projects. 

Individual inventors and creators from the Pittsburgh area, including CMU Create Lab, will be participating.

12:00 noon – 12:30 pm Program featuring Dr. Hippert, Charlie Batch and three students who will each get three minutes of fame to talk about their Grant Projects.

12:30 pm – 2:00 pm Open House and project demonstrations will continue.


Where:  IBEW Circuit Center & Ballroom, 5 Hot Metal Street, Pittsburgh (South Side), PA 15203


Why:  Award winners are changing the face of public education in southwestern PA.  Students will receive individual recognition.  School districts receiving 2014-2015 grant funding will be announced.

STEAM Showcase Open House offers a platform for last year’s completed projects to showcase what they have accomplished.  It also gives next year’s recipients a chance to talk with these successful projects and discuss obstacles and potential connections.  Finally it gives teachers, administrators, and school board members a chance to see what Pittsburgh’s world of educational technology has to offer.

Each school district represented was a winner of a $20,000 STEAM grant, made possible by the Claude Worthington Benedum and Grable Foundations.

Since 2009, the foundations and the AIU have awarded more than $2.1 million in STEAM grants to school districts in southwestern Pennsylvania.
